Key Stage 3 Science Activity
(cross-curricular for Geography, History)
Energy Topic - Homework Booklet (Family Activity Guide)
An online resource for Year 7 Science pupils
This downloadable booklet is provided as a resource for developing lessons for Year 7 pupils in Science, with cross-curricular links to History and Geography. The aim is for pupils to have a better understanding of water power and the importance of sustainable, environmentally friendly power sources, through shared family learning experiences within the museum environment.
This homework project enables pupils to find out all about how renewable energy was used to power Strutt's North Mill during the 18th century and how it is still providing power today, using turbines to produce hydro-electricity.
After downloading and printing a copy of the booklet, pupils are encouraged to visit the Mill site with their families and take a tour of Strutt's North Mill, as an aid to working though the homework activities and answering the questions in the booklet.
