Volunteer

The Museum and Derwent Valley Visitor Centre and shop is staffed by members of the Volunteers Association.

The Volunteers Association contribute a variety of skills and interests and take on a variety of tasks under the leadership of the Manager.

Some welcome the public either as receptionists or guides in the museum. They aim to make the visitor experience as interesting and enjoyable as possible. Full training is given and volunteers learn how the DVVC is run by coming on duty with more experienced volunteers until they feel confident enough to begin duties on their own.

Volunteers also carry out duties such as cleaning and organising social events or school visits and maintenance.

Volunteers come from all walks of life but we find there is usually something for everyone. The volunteers hold a meeting once a month where they discuss new ideas and everyone has the opportunity to have their say. Each year the volunteers have an outing to a place of interest to get new ideas and further their knowledge of mills and cotton manufacturing. There is also a Christmas dinner.

We are constantly on the look out for new volunteers who are prepared to give up one afternoon a month, or more if possible, to help out at the mill. If you think you might be interested in helping please contact the manager.
